In this online session, we'll explore runes/words/spell-metres to open new perceptions about language, spirits and the forest. We'll be working with the Bird Goddesses language from the Vinča Goddess culture (5200 BC), discovered by archaeologist Marija Gimbutas. The Vinča culture was part of Old Europe – a matriarchal culture during the Neolithic.
These symbols will be interpreted through hypnagogic practice, solitary meditations (Utiseta), journeying, and by learning the basic anatomy of lines and dots in cave art and design theory. The discoveries and meanings are aimed to be personal and inspirational.
The paradox: the symbols themselves may be meaningless and lost to time, but the creation and interpretation of them today is not.
Our main practical guide to make chants and new perceived ideas will be the traditional spell-metre (Galdralag) written in the Poetic Edda by Odin.
Freya, the Goddess, is often maintained to be the original instructor.
General Outline of the session:
1. Sigil and mark making as a new "craft of feeling" and as an intuitive artistic inspiration.
2. The anatomy of lines and dots from cave art and design theory.
3. Asemic writing and interspecies dialogue: how do we make meaning and associations out of nature's own writing?
4. Exploring the Goddess-runes and interpreting them through various practices, all inspired by archaeologist Marija Gimbutas. The Goddess-runes, can they become chants again? We'll go into inner explorations, and find through the unbidden images how a symbol can be "witnessed" in the liminal.
5. Spell metres and practising the Galdralag.
